Apoteka “Jovo Dre\u010d” na Cetinju <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Situated on Njego\u0161eva Street 17 in Cetinje, it is the first state pharmacy in Montenegro and one of the \ntwo oldest in the Balkans. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Brief history: <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The pharmacy is a cultural-historical, architectural and profane building. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Prva apoteka na Cetinju, a ujedno i u Crnoj Gori, osnovana je je 1878. godine, u okviru Bolnice “Danilo I\u201c, a njen prvi apotekar je bio Jovo Dre\u010d iz Mostara. Od 1881. godine preseljena je u zakupljenu privatnu stambenu ku\u0107u, da bi 1891. godine pre\u0161la u privatno vlasni\u0161tvo Jova Dre\u010da, koju je vodio do svoje smrti 1902. godine. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The pharmacy was then taken over by Uro\u0161 Mari\u0107, a pharmacist from Dubrovnik, until 1913, when he handed it over to the first Montenegrin apothecary, Master Krsto Matanovi\u0107, from \u0106ekli\u0107. He placed the pharmacy on the ground floor of his house, in the former Katunska Street, now Njego\u0161eva Street. He died in 1931, and the pharmacy has remained in that space to this day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The entering door has metal eaves. There is also a glazed window with an old wooden pharmacy \nadvertisement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The pharmacy interior has wooden shelves and prescriptions with Latin inscriptions of medicines on \nceramic elliptical tiles. Pharmacy has an authentic appearance and layout as in the time of Matanovi\u0107, \nfrom 1913, which is why this significant interior is a protected, immovable cultural asset. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
There are yellow-brown and white square stone slabs on the floor in the reception area, laid in a checkerboard pattern<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Wooden entering double-leaf doors, divided into regular grid ground-glass squares, are original \narchitectural details.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The pharmacy is a rare example of preserved authentic business premises from the beginning of the 20th century.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
